Monday - Why is Elan in Singapore? I arrived in Singapore June 12, 1998 and depart for home in New Jersey July 22, 1998. Tentatively, I will visit Malaysia on Tuesday until Thursday and Sunday I fly to Brisbane, Australia and later to Bali, Indonesia. In attempt to explain why I am in Singapore, I created the list below.
Top Ten Reasons Why I am in Singapore
- Normally $1,300, the United Airlines flight was free with the 60,000 airline miles I amassed in the last year.
- As the best man at a wedding here in December, I got an offer to stay with the bride's family (to whom I am very grateful).
- The bride's sister, Alina, is a close friend
- My U.S. dollars go a long way; living and eating is cheap.
- After college graduation, everyone goes to Europe. Who wants to be everyone?
- I am in an Asian food stage, particularly Indian and Singapore has it all.
- An American visitor communicates with locals easily since English is the national language.
- Singapore is a great base for visiting South East Asian countries because of its location.
- Singapore is very far from friends and relatives.
- This country is one big
shopping mall and I can find my clothes size because Asians are short, too.
What do you think? Were those reasons enough to go? I am definitely not regretting it so far. Also, I updated my old Lehigh University web site to inform visitors of elan.org. I also made a copy at elan.org for posterity since Lehigh will delete my account in a few months. In addition, this site was down a few days ago when my web hosting provider changed their provider. Visitors should find this site more responsive now.
